Policies

  • Students are initially placed in classes based on their ages and years of experience. However, depending on their ability, an instructor may want to transfer some students to different classes.
  • All concerns, artistic and administrative, must be directed to the office and not to the instructors. The instructors are very busy teaching and do not want to take time away from doing so.
  • The office will always do its best to make sure that every student receives the latest newsletters but our view is that it is ultimately the parents/guardians’ responsibility to stay informed. Visiting or calling the studio periodically is a great way to do this. Newsletters will also be posted on our website.
  • We firmly believe that regular attendance is crucial for a successful year and recital. We hope that you feel the same. Please call the studio if your child is going to be absent.
  • The studio reserves the right to combine, cancel or change the times of classes due to registration.

Class Fees and Payment Options

Please call or visit the studio for a 2010/2011 Class Fee List.  We offer multi-class discounts to those students who take three classes or more as well as to the third sibling in a family.  A $50.00 deposit is required at the time of registration.  We also offer convenient equal payment options, 0 payments (September to June) for those students taking 1 or 2 classes as well as 12 payments (September to August) for those taking 3 or more classes.  Post-dated cheques are preferred.  A $15.00 Service Charge will apply to all returned cheques.

Costumes

There is a $65.00 depost, per costume, due no later than November 30th.  Costumes will not be ordered for anyone who has not paid their deposit.  Costumes usually start arriving at the studio, where they will be altered, in March. Costumes will only be distributed to those ho have paid their costume balances and have current accounts.  Costume balances must be paid in cash.  All performers not wearing long pants must purchase new tights from the studio.  Unfortunately there cannot be any exceptions to this.

Dress Code

THE FOLLOWING DOES NOT APPLY TO COMPETITION STUDENTS WHO MUST WEAR BODYSUITS AND TIGHTS AT ALL TIMES AND ARE NOT ALLOWED TO WEAR SKIRTS FOR BALLET OR SWEAT PANTS OR LOOSE FITTING T-SHIRTS FOR HIP HOP.

All recreational students (males and hip hop excluded) must wear a one-piece bodysuit and tights.  Bodysuits and tights may be any colour but we prefer ballet students to wear Mondor Ballerina Pink tights.  Students may wear skirts or yoga type shorts and pants.  Sweat pants and loose fitting shirts are allowed for hip hop classes only.  Denim is not allowed for any classes.  No exceptions!  All ballet students must wear their hair in a bun.  All other students must have hair pulled back into a ponytail and combed off of their face.

Required Shoes

  • COMPETITION STUDENTS SHOULD NOT PURCHASE ANY SHOES UNTIL THEY ARE NOTIFIED BY THE OFFICE!

  • Because of our free-trial period, it is not expected that recreational students have proper shoes on the first day of classes.  It is a good idea to get them shortly thereafter so that the student can become accustomed to dancing in proper shoes.  However, we do ask that only indoor shoes be worn to class.  Dirty footwear is not acceptable in classroom at any time.

  • All students must have the proper shoes for their respective classes for the recital.

Ballet: So Danca Ballet Slippers (Half Sole for Beginners & Juniors, Full Sole for Intermediates & Seniors)

Jazz & Musical Theatre: Capezio or So Danca Tan Jazz Boots (Not to be confused with Caramel)

Contemporary & Lyrical: Tan Capezio Foot Undeez

Tap: Patent Black for Beginners

Black Mary Janes or Lace-Ups for Juniors

Black Lace-ups for Intermediates & Seniors

Hip Hop: Any brand of all black hip hop shoes or all black indoor only sneakers.  Dirty footwear is not acceptable.  Shoes must be worn at all times during hip hop classes! NO EXCEPTIONS.  This is so the shoes will absorb the impact of the steps rather than the students' feet and knees.

Fundraising

There will be several fundraising opportunities made available throughout the year.  Signs will be posted and newsletters will be distributed with the details.
